“It was at 1Malaysia Internet Centre that I discovered just how much the arts and craft was in demand by the masses,” says Nancy
For 41-year-old Nancy, learning how to use the internet was difficult. So she would make trips to the 1Malaysia Internet Centre at Kubu Emma with her child, who would help her do the market research she needed for her handicraft business.
“It was at 1Malaysia Internet Centre that I discovered just how much the arts and craft was in demand by the masses,” says Nancy who is still enjoying learning how to use the internet at the centre. “I also get a lot of new pattern ideas from surfing the internet, and today I can produce lots of different handicraft designs.”
Her product line includes necklaces, bracelets, selampai and tanggu. Each are delicately crafted with small beads on thread, and requires a lot of dedication, patience and passion.
“At first, business was hard because I didn’t believe that my handicraft was good enough for promotion. Now that I am able to produce lots of handicraft designs, I feel more confident to promote my handicraft to nearby long houses and neighbourhoods. Every now and then, I even teach relatives and friends the art of beading!”
